woo hoo! They're great. We had a great time dancing all night, that conga was really early.
My friend Lia took the pictures after I asked on Facebook if anyone was around to take pictures at the wedding for not-that-expensive. She did a great job!
Quick fun story that I love. Lia is the wife of my friend Josh... who was the first boyfriend I ever had, ever. In high school, for about 7 days. I think maybe we held hands once. Josh broke up with me on my answering machine, I don't even think that he did it I think his friend did. It sucked, obviously. I was super sad. But, as it happens when you are 15 I got over it quickly and Josh and I became friends and then facebook friends and then he joined the Air Force and married Lia and they have three beautiful kids and Lia and I became facebook friends and ta da, Lia took my wedding pictures.
I love it.
What an awesome circle to be a part of!
I can't wait to tell my daughter (someday) when she's sad about a dude. Growing up is awesome, you get to get married to someone awesome and so does everyone else! Fun.
Merry Christmas Friends & Family!
Well Christmas is this weekend and boy am I glad that we started our e-holiday card tradition last year so people know what to expect this year!
On December 31, 2010 Juan Carlos and I spent a quiet New Year's Eve at home. We also made the first of many wedding planning phone calls. Juan Carlos was on the phone and I remember very clearly watching him from the kitchen, hands clasped together smiling from ear to ear with my brand new 'we're really doing this' smile.
We knew that 2011 would be a year of weddings for us, but the details were ahead of us. They didn't disappoint. In February Juan Carlos surprised me with a beautiful engagement at the Museum of Modern Art where we had had our first date. In April we were married and in October and December we were blessed to be able to celebrate our marriage with friends and family in New York and Las Vegas.
2011 deserves a special thank you to our parents Victor & Lily Pineiro and Mark & Bobbi Stirek. Throughout the entire year they have supported us and loved us and let us be ourselves. The celebration in Las Vegas was absolutely perfect, we had such an amazing time! We will be posting pictures to flickr soon, sign up and add me as a friend to see them all HERE!
Thank you to all of our friends for the tremendous outpouring of love and support for our marriage! The well wishes and the gifts have been overwhelming and we are so grateful for each and every one!
Professionally, Juan Carlos is in the midst of editing his second feature film Know How. He also recently joined the team at Aha Life and has been graphic and web designing for the past few months. He's really enjoying having a 9-5 (ish) job after years of freelance work!
Our non-profit The White Roof Project is running at high speed! We had a great year, coating over 35,000 square feet of roof on Manhattan's Lower East Side and we closed out the painting year with a very successful auction fundraiser. In 2012 we will be expanding to other cities and supporting projects across the country.
I am still working at the hedge fund. Supplementing my time with a few side projects. I am running social media for White Roof Project, and have renewed my positions on the Junior Board of StreetWise Partners and on the Advisory Board of the New York City New Leaders Council. In 2012 I will be the Institute Chair for the NLC Institute and am really looking forward to working with a great group!
We have some great travel plans for 2012, in the Spring we are going to head down to Puerto Rico to spend a 'second honeymoon' at the Pineiro Apartment in San Juan! My not-so-little brother Kincade is graduating High School in June in Las Vegas and my cousin Danny is marrying Jen, a wonderful addition to the family, in October in Chicago! My sister Blair is moving to Austin this summer and there's a chance we'll get to visit her too. It'll give us a chance to you know, check out Austin. See if it's somewhere that we might want to live someday too! Slowly but surely we're being called west!
This weekend we are staying in New York for the first time ever! We are having a small group of friends over for a Christmas Eve pot-luck and will be waking up to our first Christmas morning as a married couple in our own home!
We wish you all a happy and healthy 2012! Don't forget to let us know next time you're in New York City! We threw away our big couch for a love seat and exercise bike but we'll happily blow up the air mattress for you anytime! If you're a New Yorker let us know when you're in Astoria and we'll get together!

Well the other day I get home and there's a knock on the door right after. Which is weird because nobody ever comes over. It was two very nice young men from Frack Action. I took one look at their clipboard (good canvassing skills guys! Hold that clipboard out!) and went OMG hi! I know Julia Strauss I'm a big fan of you guys I was president of MYD... etc, it was a lot for them to take. I rambled and I signed their form and then I mailed a check to Frack Action too!
I love drinking water and cute canvassers and doing the right thing.

We had SUCH a great time at our wedding celebration on October 22nd! You might remember that we had to change the date due to Hurricane Irene, but like you have to tell yourself for all things ever, it worked out for the best!
The event was moved to a Sat night (what part of me thought I was young enough to go to work the day after my wedding, I don't know) and the guest list more or less evened out! We missed those of you who weren't able to make it!
I had one small breakdown on the way to Costco and I got unnaturally upset at someone who was walking RIDICULOUSLY slow once we were inside costco but other than that the process of getting to the event was fine! Even when the trader joes guy had to lower a case of wine into my lap in the front seat of our packed car!
We picked up Elizabeth and her awesome stash of party goods (ice buckets, wedding wish trees, lucite stands and more!) and headed downtown. If you haven't been to GreenSpaces (Broadway and Walker) you should go, but not to go in you should walk around the building to the coooooooooolest alley I've ever seen! Actually, the ONLY NYC alley I've ever seen. You usually can't even get back there because someone is always being murdered CSI:NY style, that's how cool it is.
So we loaded our stuff in the freight elevator that backs into the alley and we had just over an hour to get the room ready! Elizabeth, Julia, Allison, Evelyn, Victor, Dana & Nicole were life savers! They hung lights, put out food, set up the speakers and helped the bartender set up! Loni & TJ arrived a little later due to their baby girl accidentally grabbing the curling iron (been there! but I was a teenager) with cake-pops and a card box!
Guests arrived, there was dancing and mingling. We did an amazing first dance (JCPE is seriously the cutest) and then it was dance party all night long! We stayed a little later than planned and the staff at GreenSpaces helped us clean up and get everything into the car (still missing - scissors, serrated knife and condiment holders). The night was capped off by a JCPE sneak-attacking me with the cupcakes! My fault for not discussing 'not smushing my face with cake' earlier!
Then we headed to a nearby dive-bar for a few more cocktails before the night was over!
[ok, ok I also fell really hard, ok?! Is that what you wanted to hear? I wanted to surprise JCPE and meet him around the corner so I ran... and I BIT IT in my crazy heels. I hope someone somewhere saw me and that it made their night a little cheerier to see a huge blue ball of fluff tumble down the sidewalk!]
All in all it was a wonderful night! We couldn't have done it without our amazing friends who supported us and moved around their schedules to celebrate with us! Thank you all SO MUCH!
I've been a bridesmaid four times now and every time is an insanely different experience. At Annie's wedding I was only 19 and even less capable of handling free champagne as I am today! Christiana's was a small affair with a view of the statue of liberty and a few family and friends (the most similar to mine, actually). Loni's was a batshit crazy Jersey fiesta of nutso that ended up being awesome, but involved the most tears. Finally, for Indika's wedding I had the absolute least to do and a dress that I'm going to wear again, so therefore the best time.
I've never been a Maid of Honor but if I were to be I'd want to emulate Crystal and her awesome ability to be on top of everything. My sister and I nabbed a few of Crystal's "Bachelorette Party Recovery Kits" full of advil, mints, lotion, coffee, shower salts (it's a thing) socks, lip gloss and a ton of other fun goodies. I actually had to check my bag on the way home because I didn't want to abandon all the lotion (and spray on hoes) that I got as gifts.
The wedding was beautiful! Indika looked phenomenal, as always. I love how as people we pair ourselves off in such interesting ways. I'm a firm believer that JCPE and I match, we're both little and brown. Indika and John are both ripped and blonde. I get genuine heart flutters when I think of my friends finding the loves of their lives. I also love so much that we have been friends for so long that my family was invited to the wedding. Thank you so much Indika and John for such a great wedding!
Also, I can't wait to see all the pictures! I never want to see the video because I realized I practiced my ONE joke with the videographer while we were taking pictures then used it in my speech! Ugh! So now I'm in the the video twice saying almost the exact same thing! I planned that poorly.
Now that we've been home there are a few ideas floating around for our December reception in Vegas. It's going to probably be a house party, it WILL involve dancing. There will be a speech by my one bridesmaid, Blair. More info and an actual date coming soon!
The big thing is, this time I found myself LOVING Las Vegas. I love that you get to wear heels everywhere because you're not walking a zillion miles. In vegas if you're not wearing heels and earrings you're wearing pajama pants, platforms and huge sunglasses. Basically, everyone looks awesome. I love that you always know what direction you're going in because you can see the mountains so it's impossible to get lost. I love that I went house hunting with my sister to look at houses that were all so far under 80K it made my head spin.
I miss my family. I miss my mom and my dad and all three of my brothers (even you, Decker). I miss Indika and Crystal and Annie and Jasen. I need to learn to drive.
I hear the west coast calling my name.
* IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN BRIDESMAIDS YOU NEED TO GO LIKE, RIGHT NOW. I have never laughed so hard in the theater ever in my life!
I wanted to say a special thank you to everyone who has left comments on the blog and taken the labor of love it was to read it! Especially to Evelyn, Liz and Katy who reached out to tell me how much they enjoyed it! And to Agnes, Amy and Xin who were stealthy about finding the registry! You are all so wonderful!
I'm really excited to start talking about it! Thank you to everyone who has called and texted and im'ed and asked questions and wanted stories! More stories on the blog to come, and of course celebrations in person but if anyone just wants to chat about it I'm Mrs. Pineiro, and I'm ready!
